Travel Proficiency Certificate

Ready to travel with confidence?

The Travel Proficiency Certificate is a free, hands-on accredited training scheme designed to help disabled individuals feel safe, confident, and independent when using public transport.

Whether you're travelling solo or with support, this course gives you the tools to plan journeys, navigate public spaces, and enjoy the freedom of getting out and about.

What’s It all about?

Disabled people make around 30% fewer journeys than non-disabled people, often because of barriers linked to safety, accessibility, and confidence. The Travel Proficiency Certificate is here to change that.

Through a series of friendly workshops and a real-world day trip, you’ll build the skills and confidence to travel independently and enjoy the journey as much as the destination. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

What you’ll learn:

  • Stay safe in the community.

  • Learn how to look after your belongings, understand public vs. private spaces, and know what to do if something goes wrong.

  • Plan your journey.

  • Use maps, apps, and other tools to plan a route that works for you — then test your skills with a real challenge.

  • Take the trip.

  • Put your plan into action with a supported day trip. You’ll lead the way, using everything you’ve learned.

  • Reflect and look ahead.

  • Think about what went well, what could be better, and how you’ll use your new skills in the future.
